My First V-Gift [December 07, 2009 @ 6:21pm]
[ mood | happy ]

Thanks, Alice, for the beautiful Snowflake Cookie. That's the first Virtual Gift I've ever received on LJ. What a wonderful surprise on a wet & cloudy evening. It sure brightened up my day.

Oh happy day, I'm reading fanfics again!!! [November 28, 2009 @ 4:57pm]
[ mood | accomplished ]
[ music | I will follow you into the dark by James Blunt ]

Ah, what a wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon. I just found the most recent NCIS fanfic done by Xanthe on her website. The story is titled "Two Masters". Reading her stories is what got me started on watching Stargate Atlantis and NCIS on TV within the last year or so.

If you have a taste for fanfics involving BDSM then you will truly enjoy her work. You'll have a spanking good time. ^ _ ~

BTW, Rem and I went to see the movie 'Ninja Assassin' earlier today. It is BADASS - lots of kickbutt action. It's pretty bloody but, hey, that's what assassin's cause (major bloodloss).

Oh, I had a good laugh at myself today. We needed to change the air filter in our heating/cooling system. We couldn't figure how to get the door to the unit open. I ended up having to call the company that I have a maintenance service contract with and asking them how to get the damn door open. When they told me how to do it, I felt foolish because it was SO easy. Rem was a big help in getting the filter to fit because it is an odd size. She had to cut about an inch off of the edge with a box cutter. Thank goodness that chore is done for another two-three months, at least. *sighs*

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

*hugs & smiles*

I'm still here!!!!! [October 21, 2009 @ 7:21pm]
[ mood | tired ]

I'm still here. The only difference is that I bought a house in August. I moved from a small 2-bedroom apartment into a 3-bedroom/1 bath house. Thank God for a bigger, nicer place to live.

Real Life has been kicking my butt. This is my first time to post in months. Don't give up on me, though. I'll be back. I've really missed reading all the great fanfics and hearing about what's going on with all my LJ friends. ^ _ ^

Star Trek, the Real World & Mother's Day [May 10, 2009 @ 5:41pm]
[ mood | calm ]

Ha, I still live!!!!!!!! Although my existence has consisted MOSTLY of going to work, I've been making my escape from RL by enjoying the wonderful movies that have been coming out in recent weeks. For a couple of hours each weekend, I break the bonds which chain me to this mortal plane and soar to new heights through the movies I watch.

Speaking of which, I went to an advance showing of 'Star Trek' this past Thursday night. Friends, I was rendered speechless. I won't give away any of the plot with spoilers but I have to say it took me back, way back, to when I was a kid. I watched the original Star Trek series on TV in the 60's. I didn't realize until my daughter brought it to my attention that she was born exactly 20 years, to the day, from when the series premiered on TV (9/8/66 -- 9/8/86). WHOA, am I a loyal Trekkie or what?!?!?!?!? ~ _ ^

I have been doing some other interesting things since the beginning of 2009. I've attended the Symphony this season (glorious music), gone to the Rodeo & Fair *Ye haw, save a horse - ride a Cowboy* and took a week of vacation during Spring Break. Rem and I went to Abilene twice. She had a really sweet friend who flew down from out of state that week and we went up there to the airport to pick her up. While she was here we spent a couple of days in San Antonio doing the usual tourist things (visit the Alamo, stroll down the River Walk, eat authentic Mexican food, ride the tour boat and shop at the huge River Walk Mall). I can't afford to go to an anime convention this year but truly hope to do so next year. I wouldn't mind going to AnimeFest in Dallas again. I had a blast there last year.

I've missed reading the posts at LJ and hope to be able to spend more time doing so in the near future. If I don't get a chance to read & comment or praise the talented artwork found on LJ please don't think I've forgotten you all. The fan fiction and artwork help me to relax and find some peace of mind. Some of the stories have even brought entertaining TV shows to my attention. For example, I think I am now addicted to watching NCIS. Some nights I watch four episodes in a row on the USA channel. *sighs happily*

Also, I want to wish all the moms out there a 'Happy Mother's Day'.

BTW, has anyone heard anything about whether or not the next season of Dr. Who will be returning to Sci-Fi?

Since this is the first chance I've had in a long, long time to visit LJ (I don't have my own computer with Internet access at home)I think I'll get busy reading posts. *laughs out loud*

'Twilight' and 'Stargate Atlantis' [November 26, 2008 @ 8:49pm]
[ mood | happy ]
[ music | Blake Shelton ]

I went to see "Twilight" last weekend. I haven't read any of the books. But, since I'm *crazy* about vampires & a die-hard romantic, I enjoyed the movie. The soundtrack kicks ass so now that CD is on my wish list for Christmas.

Regarding Stargate Atlantis, apparently there are only a few episodes left in the series. *frowns* Why is it that whenever I really, really get into a show it ends up being toward the end of the series?!?!?!?!? Well, I'm going to miss watching it on Friday nights. Maybe they'll start showing re-runs in the near future so I can catch up on the earlier episodes that I missed.

HOPE EVERYONE HAS A HAPPY THANKSGIVING - IF YOU'RE TRAVELING, BE CAREFUL & STAY SAFE!!!!!

*hugs & smiles & plushies*

Youka Nitta's "Embracing Love/A Cicada in Winter", "Last Quarter" & "Kyo Kara Maoh" [October 12, 2008 @ 4:23pm]
[ mood | calm ]
[ music | Viva La Vida by Coldplay ]

I FINALLY got a copy of the DVD "A Cicada in Winter". I saw the first two episodes of the movie when I attended Anime North in "07" and I've seen numerous fanvids on YouTube. But I'd never seen the third (final) episode. Well, now I've seen the entire OVA. *sniffles* I am a content Yaoi fangirl. *wipes eyes*

Oh, and I also got to watch a movie called "Last Quarter" starring Hyde. It kicked butt!! A good friend of mine, whom I met at Anime Fest, sent me her copy to enjoy. My DVD player couldn't read the disc but Rem, bless her heart, got it to work on her computer. Hey,Rem, Mom owes you one. ~_^ If anyone knows where I can get a Region 1 or All Region copy of this movie please let me know. It used to be distributed by Geneon. Maybe now that Funimation took over a lot of Geneon's licenses (products) it will become available here in the States again.

Dang, that reminds me, Funimation has started releasing the last volumes of the series Kyo Kara Maoh. After waiting almost exactly a year for Vol. 7, I got it in the mail this past week and Vol. 8 is already on order. *shouts for joy* I had been collecting that anime series for a long, long time when Geneon went under (Fall of "07"). If you're looking for a light, adventurous anime series with plenty of humor and a hint of Yaoi I'd recommend this one for your viewing pleasure.

Well, Rem will be getting out of work soon. I think I will surprise her by fixing my homemade chicken vegetable soup. MMMMMMMM *licks lips*

*hugs & smiles*

Promotions can turn your brain to mush! [September 30, 2008 @ 8:57pm]
[ mood | content ]

I got a promotion at work in August. Since then, I've been training the new girl who took over my old position while trying to learn my new job duties. Thank God I'm already familiar with the computer programs we use on a daily basis. Sometimes I feel like my brain has turned to mush, though. *shakes head slowly*
Oh well, time marches on and things will get better slowly. ^_^

BTW, Rem setup this neat icon for me. I used to watch Dark Shadows after school when I was a kid. I had a huge teenage-crush on Barnabas Collins. *grins*

Back from AnimeFest, exhausted but extremely happy [September 11, 2008 @ 7:50pm]
[ mood | accomplished ]

Well, I made it through Labor Day weekend in Dallas. Hooray!!!!!

Rem and I had a blast at AnimeFest. We arrived the day before the convention started and got a room on the 21st floor with a view of the historic West End district of Dallas. I could see the spot where President Kennedy was assassinated if I looked out the window to my left. I met some really, really neat people and made some new friends (Hi, Nora and Art!!). *grins* Rem spotted someone from one of her online RPGs that she recognized from a picture she had seen on the Internet. It sure is a small world. ^_^

I usually spend most of my time at conventions in the Dealers' Room and photographing cosplayers. This time, though, I attended more panels and activities - like Anime Hell, the Anime Dating Game 18+, Cosplay competitions, premier screenings for new anime series, guest autograph sessions etc. Plus I spent a lot more time checking out the artists' booths. I am sssooo envious of all those talented people. I came away with key chains, badges, buttons, a pair of earrings, some steaming hot prints *fans self* of a few of my favorite anime characters, a pair of cat ears, etc.

Needless to say, I still spent lots of time and money in the Dealers' Room. I found some new pictures of Gackt *sighs*, got my first plushie (Kakashi from Bleach), several yaoi manga, several anime DVDs (yaoi & hentai), jewelry, a scroll calendar with a large dragon on it, one of those little animal caps (a fox), etc.

Rem and I both bid on artwork in the Artist Gallery. She bid on a fantastic sketch of Vincent Valentine. I bid on an exquisite piece of artwork called Drum Beat, Heart Beat (by Ms. Folse) and a fairly large drawing called Cherry Road (by T-Shirt) which pictured all the guys from Gundam Wing (Heero, Duo, Quatre, Trowa & Wufei)standing under cherry trees in full bloom. I just fell in love with that drawing when I spotted it in the Gallery. And guess what??!?!??! We got what we bid on. *does "happy, happy, joy, joy" dance*

Hey, Trudy, I have your "I "heart" Yaoi" bumper sticker, BTW. I just need to get around to sending it to you. LOL

There were six video rooms where you could watch anime until the wee hours of the morning. There's never a dull moment at these conventions. One night we didn't go to bed until 4 am. By the time we left for home on Tues. afternoon we were dragging butt!!!!!

There were a few glitches, though. The shuttle bus from the airport to the hotel had a flat tire. We were the last passengers on the bus. The driver called for a cab, which the shuttle bus company paid for, and we got to the hotel about 7 - 8 minutes later. The second glitch was the memory card in my new digital camera went bad Sat. afternoon, right when I had decided that I would start concentrating on taking pictures of all the cosplayers. T_T But Rem took hundreds of pictures so it wasn't a complete lost. On the trip home, baggage handling for American Airlines messed up one of the little wheels on Rem's BRAND NEW rolling suitcase.

If you've never been to an anime convention, save up your money and go. It is well worth it. *smiles*

Also, when the anime series 'Freedom' (from Bandai) comes out you really should watch it. It's a fantastic piece of animation and one of the best series I've ever seen.

Rem should be calling me any minute now for a ride home from work so I need to go.

*hugs & more hugs* *smiles*

AnimeFest [August 17, 2008 @ 4:21pm]
[ mood | contemplative ]
[ music | 3OH!3 ]

Just a little over ten days until I take off for Dallas to attend AnimeFest. Work has been crazier than Hell for the past month or so. I am MORE than ready for a vacation. The fact that this is a four-day convention is just icing on the cake. *does "happy happy joy joy" dance*
I haven't forgotten about my promise to get Yaoi bumper stickers for TutyFrty. ~_^

Is anyone else watching an anime called "Now and Then, Here and There" on Sci-Fi on Monday nights? It's very good but very sad, in a "Grave of the Fireflies" way. I was wondering how long the series is.

*hugs to all*

Wild & Unexpected Adventure [July 19, 2008 @ 8:32pm]
[ mood | accomplished ]

I wasn't expecting to do anything exciting this afternoon but I ended up going canoing on the river with a couple of friends. I had never been in an actual canoe before. I am very proud of myself because 1) I didn't tip the canoe over and 2) I didn't whimper in fear. *grins* I can't swim very well but we did have flotation devices with us. My friend, Megan, is from California so she's an old hand at doing that kind of stuff. I'm glad I went instead of wimping out.

BTW, I've got tickets to go see "Batman - Dark Knight" tomorrow night. I've heard the movie lives up to all the hype. And, YES, Hellboy II kicked ass. ^ _ ^

Also, I am absolutely thrilled to find out that Yaoi-Press will have a booth in the Dealers Room at AnimeFest in Dallas next month. They carry a huge line of products so I might finally be able to get my hands on some stuff that's hard to find around here.
*claps for joy*

It's time to go pick up Rem from work. Maybe I'll surprise her by treating her to Starbucks. I'm in the mood for a Chai Tea Latte.

HELLBOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [July 12, 2008 @ 8:07pm]
[ mood | jubilant ]

We're going to see the last showing of "Hellboy 2" tonight. I won't get home until after midnight but that's fine with me. I don't usually go to bed until around 11:30 or so anyway. ~_^

I'm going to wear my gotohellboy.com T-shirt that I got last Spring
at Anime North in Toronto. Oh yeah, I've been on 'pins & needles' waiting for this kick ass sequel to come out. *bounces up & down in chair"

Hope everyone else has a fantastic night, like I plan to. *grins wildly*

It's almost time to pick up Rem from work so I gotta go.

Summer Movie Marathon [May 19, 2008 @ 8:29pm]
[ mood | giddy ]
[ music | Josh Turner ]

Well, I definitely know I'll be going to the movies almost every weekend for the next 3-1/2 months. *Grins* It looks like it's going to be one hell of a fantastic movie-lover's have-to-see summer movie marathon. *does a little happy dance*

Besides the anticipation of watching some kick-ass movies, I'm really starting to get
excited about going to AnimeFest over the Labor Day Weekend. Everything has already been paid for except the cost of the hotel stay. Considering where the convention is going to be held (downtown Dallas) we got pretty good rates through the convention.
Oh, the thought of spending hours in the Dealer's Room, watching anime, attending panels and snapping tons of photos of cos-players brings a huge smile to my face. ^_^

It's almost time to go pick up my daughter from work. We're going to McDonald's for a little snack. The Happy Meals have Speed Racer toys! I'm trying to get the car for Racer X.

AnimeFest In Dallas over Labor Day Weekend [April 24, 2008 @ 7:23pm]
[ mood | amused ]

Is anyone out there going to be attending AnimeFest in Dallas over the Labor Day weekend??? My daughter & I will be going for the four-day convention. We were surprised by the length of the con but that's cool with us. It just gives us more
time to mingle amongst the cos-players and to shop in the Dealer's Room. *laughs & winks* All I have to do now is save up cash, like crazy, for spending money. ~_^

If anyone's going please let me know. I'd love to meet up with you, if you'd like
to get together for a little while. Last year I was able to meet one of my favorite fanfic authors while I was at Anime North in Toronto. That will always be one of my favorite memories.

We survived the tornado!!!! [April 10, 2008 @ 8:59pm]
[ mood | thoughtful ]

A tornado passed through our town last night. We didn't realize until this morning just how close the funnel cloud was to our apartment complex. *shakes head in amazement* My sister called me this morning at 6 am (our time) to make sure we were okay. She heard about the tornado from the TV news.

Buildings that are just across the street from us were hit. The office building for the storage facility across the street, to our left, lost part of its roof. The cemetery directly across from us now has leaning headstones. A huge manufacturing plant, on the adjacent block, lost part of the roof and the back wall of its building. When we stand in our the driveway we can look across and up & down the street and survey the damage caused on our street. Thankfully no one was seriously hurt or killed.

Hope you all had a less exciting night last night.

*hugs*

What is the real scoop on Kira and her sites?? [March 22, 2008 @ 1:39pm]

Will miracles never cease?!?!?! Two posts in one day. *shakes head in wonder*

As regards my earlier post, I apparently don't know the whole story of what is going on with Kira & the changes regarding her stories, websites, companies, etc. If anyone knows, please give me the condensed version. GAH, this is why I hate to get behind on everything. *kicks at empty space*

Spring at last!!!!! Oh, any Kira fans out there? [March 22, 2008 @ 9:06am]
[ mood | thoughtful ]
[ music | Toby Keith's Big Dog Daddy ]

Wow, I can't believe I actually have a few minutes of computer time to post an entry. *squeals with joy* I'm still alive and well in Texas.

So many things in RL have happened lately that I haven't been able to enjoy reading all the wonderful fanfics and keeping up with what's happening to/with my Journal friends. I may not be reading/posting very often, my friends, but you all are still on my mind & in my prayers. *hugs & more hugs*

The weather this past winter was totally strange. We'd have temps in the upper 80's (it's already hit 90 degs. a few times) and then it would turn off wintry-cold again. If we're lucky we might have a couple of weeks of Spring weather and then it will go straight into sweltering summertime heat. ^_^ I guess I need to get my nail polish out and do a pedicure. If I can't go barefooted all the time at least I can wear sandals when I go out in public. :P Yayyyyyyyy!

I know some of you post on Kira's various websites. I just found out about the drastic changes in her life & for her websites/companies. Please keep her in your prayers and lend as much moral support as you can. We've all had health and financial problems, so we know what it's like. I've gone through bouts of clinical depression too and it is not a pleasant journey. One of my firm beliefs is: A person can never have too many friends. I am not just a "fair-weather friend" - if you are here for me when I need you then you can count on me being there for you in return.

Well, I guess I better get on over to Yahoo and check my emails. Would you believe I have almost one hundred unread emails? I'm not kidding when I say I'm behind on anything related to the internet.
*laughs*

*smiles & snuggles*

I know Valentine's Day isn't until tomorrow but this is my only chance to wish everyone a sweet & memorable day. Even if you don't have a "sweetheart" or "special someone" enjoy the day because *SOMEBODY* somewhere loves you.

I've got a card & a small gift to give to Rem. She's a wonderful daughter so she deserves a treat. ^_^

BTW, I'm not getting as much time as I would like to read LJ (same as last year) but I'm not giving up. I'll try to read & review fanfics when I get a chance. I bet I'm missing tons of good stuff. T_T Also, for those of you who are going through tough times, my thoughts & prayers are with you. Been there, done that.

Winter time in Texas & Rodeo news [January 19, 2008 @ 7:14pm]
[ mood | relaxed ]
[ music | Josh Turner ]

Damn, it's been COLD lately but it gives me a chance to wear some of my sweaters. I used to get cold really easy but, ever since I went through menopause, it seems like my internal body temperature is higher now. I keep the thermostat set at around 70 degrees. Poor Rem, the three cats and two gerbils have to suffer in a chilly apartment. Since the cold snap, though, I've been setting it up around a high of 75 degrees. ~_^

On the rodeo front, tickets go on sale this Monday. YAY!!!!!!!!!!! I already know the exact seats that we're going to reserve. We always sit right by the bronco & bull pens. When those cowboys come out of there the action is fast & furious. The rider has to stay on the horse's or bull's back for at least 8 seconds for the ride to qualify. There's also calf roping and barrel racing. To say watching the rodeo is exciting is an understatement. The rodeo events start on February 21st and run through the 29th. I don't know if the final night will televised this year or not.

Well, Rem should be calling me soon to pick her up from work. I still need to check my email at Yahoo so I better get a move on. *laughs*

Fushigi Yugi jackpot!!!!!!! [January 05, 2008 @ 8:44pm]
[ mood | thoughtful ]

Well, wonders never seem to cease. *squeals with joy*

Rem spotted the two boxed sets of the anime series 'Fushigi Yugi' at our local Hastings store earlier this week. We've been wanting to add those to our collection for a long, long time. She already had the third boxed set (the Oni Box). The two sets are previously owned (used) BUT I saved $185.00 & they're in excellent condition. Even the little booklets were still inside the case. Sometimes you never know what treasures you will find when you go shopping. *grins*

She also found all ten volumes of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. Needless to say, we will be spending a lot of our free time watching anime. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm trying to find an anime convention to attend here in Texas. I know A-Con is in Dallas but we'd like to go to one in Corpus Christi or San Antonio, if possible. We've gone to at least one convention per year for the past three years (twice to Houston & once to Toronto). It'd feel really strange *not* to see cos-players and not go wild spending money in the Dealer's Room. *sighs* Does anyone have any suggestions??
